My ex-boss said that to me after I’d spoken onstage alongside board executives, in front of a packed auditorium.

One of the truest and kindest things she ever said to me.

Yes, the same boss who would later drive me straight to the hospital. Life is complicated like that.

Sometimes the person who mishandled your gift still recognized it. They just were never meant to steward it.
