Usually, the crows throw a whole fit.

They squawk. They crowd. They carry on until the osprey finally decides the aggravation is no longer worth it and flies off.

Not this one.

This one just sat there.

Unbothered. Unmoved. Not matching their energy. Not explaining itself. Not reacting to every bit of noise around it.

And whew, if that didn’t remind me of how Black women sometimes have to move at work.

Everybody does not deserve a response.

Every disruption does not require our participation.

Every attempt to make us uncomfortable does not mean we have to move.

Sometimes the power is in staying exactly where you are, knowing you belong there, and letting everybody else tire themselves out.

This one was built different.
